Span Support

Span turns a video of your climbing into something you can read: a moving skeleton, the path your weight took, and a handful of numbers that mean something.

Getting started

1. Point it at the wall. Open Span and the camera shows a live skeleton over whoever is in frame. Tap the shutter to record.
2. Or bring a climb you already filmed. Tap the library button, then +, and pick a video. Span runs detection over it and adds it to your climbs.
3. Open a climb to watch it back with the overlay, scrub through it, and see the analysis.

Common questions

Why is there no skeleton on my video?

Span needs to see a whole person. Detection struggles when the climber is very small in frame, badly backlit, or partly out of shot. Filming from further back so the full body stays in frame helps more than anything else. On a busy wall, try the heavier detection model in Settings → Detection Model.

Why does it ask for my height and wingspan?

A single camera cannot tell how big anything is, so without a real measurement Span can only report heights as “body lengths”. Give it your wingspan once and it gains a ruler: heights read in metres, and it can estimate your arm, leg and torso lengths from your own climbing. It is entirely optional — skip it and everything else works.

Are the body measurements accurate?

They are estimates from a 2D video, and they run slightly short: a limb that never straightens during a climb measures shorter than it is. They improve as you record more climbs, because Span takes the median across them rather than trusting any single one.

Where did my export go?

Exports are saved to your photo library and listed inside the climb they came from, under “Generated from this climb”. They deliberately do not appear as separate climbs in your library.

Can I change what the overlay shows?

Yes — the slider button on the camera or on any climb. Skeleton, joints, trails, angles, colours, line thickness and dot size are all adjustable, with a live preview.

Does Span upload my climbs?

No. There is no account and no server. Everything runs on the phone. See the privacy policy.

Recording stopped on its own.

Recording is capped at five minutes, and Span refuses to start if the device is nearly out of storage. Both are there to avoid losing a take partway through.

Reporting a problem

Email support@spanclimbing.com and include:

• your iPhone model and iOS version
• what you were doing when it went wrong
• whether the climb was recorded in Span or imported

If it is a detection problem, a short clip showing it helps more than any description.
