Privacy Policy
Span · last updated 3 August 2026
Span does not collect your data. There is no account, no server and no analytics. This policy is short because there is very little to describe.
What Span stores, and where
Everything Span produces stays on your iPhone.
- Video and photos you record are saved to your own photo library, in an album named “Span”. Video you import is never copied or modified — Span reads it and leaves the original alone.
- Pose data — the landmark positions detected in each frame — is written to Span’s own storage on the device, alongside the capture it came from.
- Your height and wingspan, if you choose to enter them, and the body measurements Span estimates from your climbing, are stored on the device in the app’s settings.
- Overlay preferences are stored the same way.
What leaves your device
Nothing, unless you send it yourself. Span makes no network requests of its own. Pose detection runs entirely on the iPhone, using a model bundled inside the app. There is no upload step, no sync and no cloud processing.
The only way anything reaches another device is if you use the share sheet to send a video, an image or a pose-data file somewhere. At that point you are choosing the destination, and that destination’s own privacy terms apply.
Permissions Span asks for
- Camera — to show the live pose overlay and to record. Required for recording; the rest of the app works without it.
- Microphone — to record audio alongside video. Optional. Deny it and recording still works, silently.
- Photo library — to save what you capture, and to import video you have already filmed. Span can read the media you grant it access to, and writes only the captures and exports it creates.
You can change any of these at any time in the iPhone’s Settings app.
Deleting your data
- Deleting a capture inside Span removes its video and its pose data. Media you imported is only removed from Span’s list — your original file in the photo library is untouched.
- Deleting the app removes all of Span’s own storage: pose recordings, your measurements and your settings. Anything already saved to your photo library stays there, because it is yours.
- You can clear your height, wingspan and measurements at any time from Settings → Climber → “Forget my measurements”.
Children
Span is rated 4+ and collects nothing, from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it. Since Span collects nothing, any change would be about adding a feature that does — and that would be described here before it shipped.
